Vishy Anand’s Best Game

  • Panda Chess

Viswanathan Anand is a player that probably needs no introduction.

"Vishy", as he’s commonly referred, became the first Grandmaster from India back in 1988 and a world champion in 2000 and again in 2007. Only a player of the caliber of Magnus Carlsen could take his title years after (2013).

Another thing that I love about Vishy is that despite being 54, he still competes at the highest level occasionally. In this age where prodigies get younger and younger, being able to keep up is quite an achievement.

Vishy himself used to be a prodigy and he was called the "Lighting Kid" as a youngster, given how fast and easily he could demolish his opponents.

But another impressive skill that I see in Vishy’s play is his tactical abilities. At his best those skills could only be matched by very few players.

The game that he played against Armenian Grandmaster Levon Aronian in 2013 is probably the best example of this. Levon Aronian is a very ambitious player, who is always ready to go for a fight, even if that means taking risks. This is an important thing if we want to have a masterpiece in the making.
